Police over the weekend arrested and charged Paradise FM’s sports journalist, Babucarr Sey.
Police sources said Mr Sey has been charged with inciting violence, willful damage to property, conspiracy to commit felony and unlawful assembly. Mr Sey denied any wrongdoing.

His arrest came following a press conference he attended over matters concerning a piece of belonging to Global Properties which the youths of Manjai, Kotu and Bakoteh said belong to them and intend to use it as a football field.

Police spokesman Inspector Conta denied that Sey was being held for his job in covering a press conference organised by the youths.
“Investigations which are still  ongoing  believed Mr Sey organised the press conference and was heard making statements that amount to inciting people to take the law into their own hands,” he said
The PRO said the land in question was given to KMC by the Lands Office on the instruction of former president Jammeh in exchange of KMC’s land located around the stadium which Jammeh allocated to national team footballers.

‘The KMC then gave the said land to Global Properties and when the youths first made a protest about it, the police command invited them to a meeting and advised them to pursue the matter in court if they are not satisfied with the state of the land,” Inspector Conta said.
Officials of the Gambia Press Union and senior journalists yesterday visited the Kanifing Police Station where Mr Sey was being held and are engaging the police to find a solution to the issue.
