Yuonne Wright, an English philanthropist on Friday donated fishing rod and its equipment to the Boating and Fishing Association (BFA) of the Denton Bridge.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony held at the Tonten Bridge, Tourist Market in Banjul, Mrs Wright said in November last year she came to country on holiday “but when I visited the place for fishing, I was very stunned with the poor quality of fishing rod they are using and the fishermen were struggling very much with the inferior equipment. That touched my heart and I deem it necessary to give assistance to them. So upon return to England I mobilized fisher men to donate their fishing rod to the Gambia Boating and Fishing Association. This is a tip of the ice bag; we are loading a full container with lots of fishing equipment to them and the container is expected by January next year.”
Ousman Jarra of the National Tourist Guides Association who facilitated the link between Mrs Wright to Boating and Fishing Association expressed gratitude to the donors for their unflinching support to the association.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Boating and Fishing Association, the president Sambou Sonko commended the donors and described it as timely.
