Police confirm detention of 9 fisheries officials

ASP David Kujabi told The Standard that the officials are being investigated in connection with the ministry’s audit report 2008 to 2014.

“No charges have been pressed against them as of now as investigations are still ongoing,” he said. 

Kujabi declined to disclose the names of the officials but affirmed that past and current senior management officials, including permanent secretaries and directors, are among them.

Media reports, meanwhile, have indicated that Dr Bamba Banja, the permanent secretary, and Famara Dampha, former director of fisheries, are among the detainees. They’ve been detained since Thursday.
