Prosecutor Alieu Faye on the last adjourned date informed the court that he will file a written brief after the lawyer for Mambanyick Njie announced the closure of the defense’s case. “We are relying on the evidence before this court presented by the witnesses. The prosecution is applying that the evidence of the prosecution witnesses before this court be adopted,” Faye said yesterday.

However, Lawyer Antouman Gaye did not object to this but informed the court that he will address the court orally. “In a bit of certain changes by the prosecutor, I apply to make an oral address on the next adjourned date,” Lawyer Gaye said before the case was adjourned to September 8. Meanwhile the court presided by Magistrate Lamin Mbaye adopted the brief of the prosecution.

Mr Njie who accused the former Gambia Football Association executive committee of misusing football funds is on trial at the Banjul Magistrates Court accused of giving false information to the Office of the President, that the former GFA executives engaged in financial malpractices and never gave a thorough account of the imprests given to them for international matches and therefore sought approval to dissolve the committee, an information he knew to be false or does not believe to be true. He denied any wrongdoing. Five witnesses, including the treasurer of the GFA have so far testified as state witnesses.
