Public health awareness week campaign starts

The Gambia Association of public health officers, GAPHO, under the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, in collaboration with other units within the same line ministry on Monday commenced public health awareness week campaign from 8th to 13th 2018 .

The campaign, which is all geared towards creating greater awareness on the functions, achievement, prospects, and challenges of public health in The Gambia, began in the form of press conference that was held at CIAM conference hall.


In his welcome remarks, director of public health, Bolong Jorbateh, said public health in the Gambia has been and will continue to render tremendous services to the nation, assuring that the ministry of health will ensure the promotion of health, prevention of diseases and protection of lives without discrimination. He thanked the Gambia Association of Public Health Officers for their foresight, saying it is a big strive for the profession.
He said the current executive of GAPHO will work very closely with his office and the ministry of health and social welfare.

For his part, the president of GAPHO, Balla Joof, expressed delight, saying the importance of the event cannot be overestimated as far as health is concern.

The deputy permanent secretary ministry of health and social welfare, Janko Jimbara, said he is very proud to be a member of the association. He further commended the executive members of GAPHO for organizing public awareness campaign which is the first of its kind.
The director of health promotion and education Modou Njie also spoke at the event.
