An unknown driver, who knocked two people dead on the Senegambia strip, is still on the run, police sources told The Standard yesterday.
The tragedy occurred on 26 October near the ITC complex not far from the gate of the multi-million dollar International Conference Center construction site.
“The victims were Alieu Bah and wheelchair man Mbake Ndure. The driver allegedly knocked the duo and refused to stop. However eye witnesses have identified the vehicle as a BMW X5 with registration number BJL 7986 L which sped away at breakneck speed in an apparent hit-and-run style,” said Police spokesman ASP Foday Conta.
According to him, both victims Alieu, 43, and Ndure, 40, died on the spot. “We have opened a very vigorous investigation into the matter and are doing everything possible to locate and identify the driver. Hopefully with the vehicle properly identified it will be a matter of time before the person behind the wheel that early morning, about 3 am, is apprehended,” Conta concluded.
