A onetime secretary general of the APRC, Momodou Sabally has joined the United Democratic Party.

Sabally, who met the UDP leadership at the party’s office on Kairaba Avenue yesterday evening, said joining the party is the culmination of efforts dating three years.
“Today, in the interest of the development of the country, I Momodou Sabally, have decided to submit to Alhaji Ousainu Darboe,” he told a cheering crowd.

He said he did not join the UDP because he is seeking position, adding, “If I am given a position I will fulfil it to the letter but I am not here to challenge anybody’s authority”.
Mr Sabally also said the people of his native Baddibu were instrumental in his decision to join the yellow train.

“I am a son of Baddibu, and Baddibu loves me and I know that. That is why wherever Baddibu is, that is where Momodou Sabally is,” he quipped.

He said his respect for President Barrow remains but made it clear that he wants a leadership based on vision, patriotism and fair play, and “that is the leadership of Alhaji Ousainu Darboe”.

Mr Sabally said the country is at a crossroads and having been in government, he has not seen any other party with a solution.
“I know what it takes to move a country and I believe UDP is the right party that can take this country forward,” he said.

Party leader Ousainu Darboe welcomed Mr Sabally and expressed his delight, saying all are equal in the UDP.

He said Sabally’s decision to join the UDP shows his love for country, and his intelligence and foresight means he can add something meaningful to the party’s cause.
“If you give this country to the UDP, you will see development that has never been seen here before,” he said.

He called on all Gambians to join the UDP for development.
Several other speakers including Aji Yam Secka welcomed him to the party.
