This was revealed on Monday as the association outlined programmes for 2014 during a reunion meeting held at the SYDO head office, off Kairaba Avenue.
The president of SYDO, Mr Essa Conteh, said the beauty contest would seek to promote the Serahule culture.
“’Soninkara yaxaraxe’ [Miss Soninkara] is geared towards making the Serahule youths develop appreciation of their culture,” he added.
Meanwhile, the meeting availed the association the opportunity to look at other issues pertaining to its advancement, including the development of SYDO’s plot of land in Basse Manneh Kunda.
According to officials, the association intends to develop the plot into a multi-purpose youth and cultural centre with a conference hall. This would provide a source of income for the association and a skills training facilities for the youths. At the meeting, the chairperson of the board of directors, Alhaji Ebrima Kebbeh and the president, Essa Conteh, pledged D10,000 and D5,000 respectively, as a start-up fund for the development of the plot.
