Tujereng Estate Development Association (TEDA) embarks on tree planting

The Tujereng Estate Development Association recently embarked on a tree planting exercise along the coastline of the community of Tujereng. The planting exercise, supported by members of the association and its diaspora link witnessed the planting of some 500 seedlings in the community.

‘The purpose of the tree planting exercise is to combat deforestation and global warming. We also seeks to re-establish the link between local communities and nature as well as remove the people out of the old days practices that led to loss of biodiversity and as well encourage community actions against the phenomenon of climate change’, said Ebou Keita, president of the association whilst urging the community of Tujereng to ensure that the trees planted are nurtured and fostered to bear fruits.

Momodou Bah Secretary General of the Association noted that their association aims to ensure that the community of Tujereng is not environment friendly but also advocate for the availability of social services and amenities so that the inhabitants of the community can equality enjoy the right to an improved standard of living.

‘Knowing that one of the gravest threat to our community and The Gambia at large is climate change, we deem it imperative to engage in community outreach with a tree planting exercise’, he remarked.

The community also thanked the association for the initiative and promised that they will endeavour to protect the trees for the benefit of their community. They further encouraged the association to make tree planting a constant activity.
