The Turkish International Cooperation Agency (TICA), through the country’s Embassy in Gambia has donated food items and corrugated iron sheets to flood and windstorm victims in Lower River Region Tuesday
The items, 200 bags of rice, 200 bags of cement and 125 bundles of corrugated iron sheets were handed to the government by the Turkish Ambassador to The Gambia Ismail Sefa Yuceer and the TICA’s regional coordinator, Murat Oral.
The donated items were handed to the regional governor Fanta Samateh Manneh and director of the National Disaster Management Agency Alagie Sanneh for onward distribution to the affected families in the region.
Sanneh said about 23 000 people in Gambia were affected by natural disasters, out of which 4 508 were in LRR alone.
“Turkish Embassy has been supporting us in the past and our relations have been a longstanding one,” said Sanneh.
Ambassador Yuceer said Turkey is happy to be Gambia’s friend since independence while recounting other plans his country has in supporting the rebirth of democracy in The Gambia.
“Gambia will be one of the countries TICA will focus on next year,” Yuceer said.
