The United Democratic Party ended the provincial leg of its campaign with a massive welcoming ceremony that went on until the early hours of this morning. The welcoming started in Basori village where senior officials of the party spent the night on Wednesday. Earlier, the party leader Ousainu Darboe who withdrew from the campaign after injuring his hip, called on his supporters to continue as normal while he waited for the welcoming party at his Pipeline residence. From Kombo East, the party officials, led by Aji Yam Secka and consisting GFA leader Bakary Bunja Dabo, spent hours milling through giant crowds who packed the high-way from Brikama to Westfield. Supporters donning the party’s traditional yellow T-shirts said they have come to show Adama Barrow that his time is over. “You chose betrayal and greed over loyalty and comradeship. You forget too soon about the heroes who laid their lives for you to wipe away their tears. But instead you fell for the trappings of power and betrayed the very people who made you what you are today. Blame yourself,” a supporter who called himself UDP die-hard Camara, addressed Barrow on social media during the welcoming.
