UTG launches new PhD, Master’s programmes

The University of The Gambia in collaboration with University of Ibadan, Nigeria Thursday convened a press conference with the launching of the new PhD and Master’s programmes.
The event was held at the UTG law faculty in Kanifing.

The PhD and Master’s programmes include: Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Community Health/Public Health,
Entomology/Agronomy, Business Administration and History.
Speaking at the press conference, the vice chancellor, University of The Gambia, Prof. Faqir Muhammad Anjum, said this is an exciting development in the history of higher education in The Gambia for several reasons.
“Through these higher degree programs students are not only prepared for a rich and meaningful intellectual life, but they are also equipped with lifelong habits of curiosity, integrity, persistence and passion to allow them to adapt and remain relevant in an ever-changing world.”

He added: “Such benefits of higher education enhance our socio-economic, scientific and technological advancement and development as enshrined in the vision of the new Government. We are indeed fortunate to have secured the services of the experts”.

He pointed out that the University of Ibadan started in 1948 as a college of London University. Since then it has been recognized nationally and internationally for academic quality and ability to offer among other things, transformative experiences. The university’s postgraduate school is referred to as the “flagship” of postgraduate education in Nigeria.

Also speaking at the event, Professor Adiahna A. A Ugwumba, University of Ibadan said if the programme is implemented successfully the challenges need to be addressed.
Professor Victor Adefemi added that they are willing to support the University of the Gambia in this drive.
