<![CDATA[A few months ago, an unfortunate incident occurred at Faraba Banta in which at least three people lost their lives. This was a devastating day as citizens were shocked to wake up to the news of these deaths at the hands of some officers of the Police Intervention Unit (PIU). It was also luckless that some members of the PIU sustained injuries of various degrees. It was a sombre day for law enforcement officers and indeed the entire nation. One of its first casualties was the then Inspector General of Police, Mr Landing Kinteh, who resigned in its wake. Many rights activists raised concerns over what they referred to as the heavy-handedness of the police. Others cautioned citizens to be mindful of the way and manner in which they deal with the law and its enforcers. Amidst all this push and pull, the president set up a commission - which has since been dubbed the Faraba Commission - to look into the activities leading to that fateful incident.
