Ousman Yabo, the executive director of Tango, said if The Gambia has ten people like Momodou Turo Darboe, this country will be like heaven.
He said this over the weekend during the distribution of 2,710 bags of sugar to people and institutions by Mr Darboe through his Vision Development Foundation (VDF) at its head office. This gift distribution by the Salikenni-born philanthropist has become an annual event in Ramadan.

Yabo noted: “If we have ten Momodou Turo Darboes in this country, The Gambia will become a heaven… and I can tell you that there are people who have money than Turo in this country.”

He urged those rich people to emulate Mr Darboe “so that we would have peace and no one would suffer in this country. You find people in the streets begging, Turo would bring them together and give them money and create small businesses. He heals the sick and provides education bursary for some.” Yabo advised the beneficiaries to share with their families, neighbours and friends.

Saihou Fofana, the spokesperson of VDF explained that the foundation is a non-governmental organisation set up to complement government’s efforts, and help the poor and the needy.
“We have been doing this for a very long time and people can attest to that. What we are doing today is to see that we give to those who needed it the most; put a smile on people’s face.”

He said next week they will give to the governors and other provincial based organisations.
Magistrate Muhammed Krubally who doubles as the chairman of The Gambia Federation of Disable described Mr Darboe as “a man who always helps less fortunate”.
He thanked him and prayed that God continues to sustain the foundation.
The beneficiaries include The Gambia College, Armitage Senior Secondary School, GNA, Fire Rescue & Ambulance Service.
