Principal Magistrate Omar Cham of Brikama Magistrates’ Court recently cautioned five Nigerians who were arraigned for illegally entering the Gambian territory.
The prosecution said Promise Ikline, Oko Oboh Obeatare, Oko Oboh Willian Obeatare, Davidson Irabor Okosue and Ikpefila Samuel Eromosele all entered The Gambia without a permit or a pass.
The prosecution further said the men entered the country through an unofficial route from Seleti in Senegal.
Investigations further revealed that Abdul Aziz Jammeh, a Senegalese and one Fustina Anthony, a Nigerian resident in The Gambia assisted their illegal entrance.
Magistrate Cham even said though Nigerians are West Africans they should enter the country through the official border entry.
“We are not refusing anyone coming into the country but the purpose of immigration control is mainly for security and economic reasons,” he stated.
He then cautioned and discharged them.
