The coveted national schools athletics championship trophy has been won by Bakoteh Senior Secondary beating a large field to finish 365 points, more than 100 points ahead of second place Charles Jow’s 184. St Michael came in third place with 159 points followed by Essau at 146.

Bakoteh’s trophy came with a cash prize of D100,000 while Charles Jow got D50,000 and St Michael’s D25,000. This year’s championship which ended at the Independence Stadium Sunday was marred by controversy as the organisers, the Gambia Secondary Schools Sports Association had to expel about a dozen schools including holders Bottrop for alleged cheating. The five-time winners Bottrop denied any wrong doing and vowed to fight for justice.
