The three-judge panel chaired by Justice Fagbenle said the appeal failed and they upheld the conviction and sentence after standing down the matter for more than one hour. The judges did not give any reason why they dismissed Wowo’s appeal. Justice Fagbenle said they will give the reasons in January 12. The tiny courtroom was full of lawyers.
Joseph Wowo, who was present in the court, was sentenced in January after being found guilty of abuse of office, fraud and breach of trust, conspiracy to defeat justice and interference with witnesses, offences relating to judicial proceedings, to giving false information and false assumption of authority.
Wowo appealed against the decision of the high court and said the judge was wrong in convicting him.
