A father lost his life in a fire that broke out on Monday around 11am in Diamaguène Extension, in the Kaolack district.
According to neighbours, the man, identified as O Touré, who suffered from vision problems and mobility difficulties, was alone in the house when the fire started, while his wife was on her way to the market. Trapped inside, he could not be rescued in time and perished in the flames.
Firefighters were alerted and went to the scene, transporting the body to the Kaolack Regional Hospital for an autopsy.

The police have opened an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy, which has plunged the community into shock and grief.
