Untitled 52

Gambia’s most famous Catholic Priest, Fr Edu Gomez has called on Catholics to be united and to show real love to one another.
The celebrated Clergyman was speaking in Birmingham, England where he was Chief Celebrant of a High Mass commemorating the Assumption into Heaven of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of Jesus Christ and the Patron Saint of the Catholic Diocese of Banjul. At the packed Cathedral in Birmingham, where one of the congregants was The Gambia’s representative to the Court of St. James, His Excellency, Mr. Francis Blain, Kang Killing, the name he is known for after calling out Gambia’s despot in 2016 when no one would.
He spoke about jealous divisions in the Gambian community and appealed to Gambians to support one another with loyalty, emphasizing, “we are one another’s keeper.”

The animation of the Mass according to our Christian Panorama Anchor, Monica Njie, “was one for the ages.” According to Monica, the “God sent for the Diocese of Banjul,” the talented and charismatic Baby Boy Prom brought the sanctuary down with a great Mass program which according to her, “reminisced the Cathedral in Banjul.” Monica added, “the songs were emotional and all paid tribute to the glory of the most pure of women, the Virgin Mary”. She went on to add that the choir composed of “Ndaanans” brought emotion to the sanctuary. In a nutshell, Monica Njie sums up in these words, “By far, the best Mass I have attended in my lifetime.” This statement in to-to, is either a funny joke; or a tall order, and this correspondent chooses the latter!
The evening was capped off in traditional Gambian style with food, drinks and a second to none entertainment by the Ilu Oke Hunting Society of the United Kingdom. Njie also lauded Radio Gambia great, Michelle Njie Jarra who started the Sang Marie celebrations in England and also underpinned the commitment and dedication of the Christian Community of Birmingham. In her own words, “This year is one for the ages.”
