A young German philanthropist has launched a campaign to raise more than D2m to construct a clinic for pregnant women and their unborn babies.
Maximilian Barth, who started visiting The Gambia in 2016, created a GoFundMe last week, saying the clinic would provide free and confidential medical services in a safe and caring environment.

He told What’s On-Gambia: “I want to start the project as soon as possible. The location of the clinic is not yet confirmed, but we want to have it within Kombo Central.”
The overall construction would cost more than D2m.

“I hope the government and the governor’s office in West Coast Region will support the project. My plan is to hire Gambian doctors and nurses. But I might also be inviting health practitioners from Germany.”
According to Maximilian, the clinic would also help infertile couples become parents through the use of embryo technology.

“I heard many women are going to India for treatment to have children. This usually costs a lot of money. I want to make the service available in The Gambia.”
He also added: “The clinic would also have incubators to save the lives of premature babies.”
