The Fajara Club, the biggest sports club in the country, will this weekend rename its golf course after late president Sir Dawda Jawara, himself a former regular amateur player at the course.
A statement from the club revealed that the events will start with the inauguration of a golf tournament to be called Sir Dawda Memorial tourney (expected to be held annually). The tourney will start on Friday and runs through Sunday attracting professional and amateur players as well as caddies.
Then on Sunday, May 16, (the 97th birthday of the late president) the Club will unveil a memorial bust (statue) of Sir Dawda to be followed by the official renaming of the golf course after the founding president.
Henceforth, the golf course will be called Sir Dawda Jawara- Fajara Club golf course. These ceremonies would be boxed with a prize giving ceremony for the winners of the various categories of the tourney.
