GRCS supports 150 vulnerable households in CRR

The Gambia Red Cross Society with funding from the International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) and Red Crescent Societies,  last Wednesday reached out and supported 150 vulnerable households in the CRR through its ‘unconditional cash support’.

Speaking during a presentation ceremony, Jalimori Jobarteh, the principal of Brikama-Ba Upper and Senior Secondary School, expressed his happiness and thanked the GRCS for helping communities across the country.

He also thanked them for choosing his school to distribute the cash transfer.

Buba Darboe, head of disease management and food security, GRCS, highlighted the importance of reaching out to some of the hard-to-reach communities in the country.

“This unconditional cash support was possible thanks to the intervention of the IFRC who happened to be the main funders of the entire project,” he said.

He said every vulnerable family was given 3200 dalasi.

Abdoulie Fye, director of programs and operations, GRCS, said since Covid-19 has devasted lives and livelihoods, the GRCS decided to come down and help masses by handing out cash.

Ousman Mballow, a beneficiary, said the money will be of help to him and his household.

He said when his house got hit by windstorm, the GRCS reached out and supported him with corrugates and cement.

Labo Jallow, also a beneficiary, thanked the GRCS and said: “I have only female children and they are all married and my husband passed away”.
