The executive director of Gamcotrap and outgoing secretary general of IAC Dr Isatou Touray and Gamcotrap as an organisation were among those who received Certificates of recognition for their contribution towards IAC and the campaign to end FGM and other HTPS.
The general assembly was preceded by an International conference on FGM and Child Marriage in Burkina Faso capital Ouagadougou. The conference opened by the first lady of Burkina Faso, Madam Chantel Campoare was witnessed by almost 2,000 people and organised in collaboration with No Peace Without Justice and the Economic Commission for Africa. The leadership and support of the Burkinabe first lady demonstrates the political will to end female genital mutilation and child marriage in Burkina Faso. Among the various panels was one on “Development of Innovative Actions Against FGM Amongst Religious Leaders” by Gamcotrap programme coordinator- IEC, Amie Bojang-Sissoho.
The conference and general assembly was also characterised by performances and visits to centres providing shelters for women and children abandoned by their families due to socio-cultural beliefs and other social problems.
