Nenneh Freda Gomez has been announced as Citizens’ Alliance candidate for the Serekunda West Constituency in the April 9th National Assembly Elections.
Miss Gomez who is also the spokesperson of Citizens’ Alliance is the second confirmed candidate unveiled by the party after Raffie Diab.
In a statement released Saturday, CA noted that Miss Gomez’s candidacy “will break the barrier, challenge the status quo of women’s participation in Gambian politics by inspiring young women to take up the mantle of leadership and become active participants in the process of change.
“As a representative of the people, she will work to preserve the integrity and sovereignty of our republic and promote the ideals of rule of law, inclusivity, and respect for human rights through the National Assembly. Through her representation, trust will be built and hope and dignity restored in women and Gambians at large. Nenneh believes that change is only possible through solidarity,” the CA statement added.
Meanwhile, PDOIS which won four seats in the 2017 parliamentary elections has confirmed the candidacy of Sidia Jatta for Wuli West, Fatou Sowe-Jaiteh for Serekunda West, Musa Cham for Serekunda, Aminata Correa for Latrikunda Sabiji, Suwaibou Touray incumbent for Wuli East, Ousman Sillah incumbent for Banjul North, Baboucarr Mboge for Banjul Central, Kemeseng Sanneh for Niamina West, Kekuta Sey for Basse and Mansour Foon for Banjul South.
In a related development, former GMC women mobiliser Tida Kijera who went to the UDP in the run-up to the presidential election, has announced her intention to contest the Wuli West seat if her candidacy is approved by the UDP.
