Information Minister Demba Jawo has said that the government has not yet issued licence to any private television station.
Speaking to The Standard on the rumour that at least one private TV station has been cleared to broadcast, Jawo said he was aware of an application from a certain group but that the application was being processed.
Sometime ago the Public Regulatory Authority, PURA, announced it received only one application for a TV licence but did not disclose wherefrom.
Meanwhile, sources close to the regulatory body intimated to this paper that after studying the details of an application, they have recommended to the Ministry of Information and Communication Infrastructure for the issuance of a “co-broadcasting” licence to the applicant. The source declined to comment further.
