The National People’s Party yesterday revealed its confirmed list of candidates selected to run in next month’s National Assembly election.

The list, numbering 40, includes 11 sitting National Assembly Members, (10 of who decamped from UDP and GDC, and Birom Sowe, elected on an NPP ticket in a by-election). The remaining 39 are all freshmen and women.

Seedy Njie, the NPP deputy spokesman said the list was finalized after a rigorous competitive and sometimes controversial process. “But the ultimate objective of allowing grassroots participation in the selection of representatives has been achieved. We expect that since these people are selected by their own people in their localities, they would go ahead to elect them on April 9th”, Mr. Njie said.

Mr. Njie said the aspirants will undergo nominations at the various regional IEC offices on 9th March, the day scheduled by the electoral commission for the NPP to nominate its candidates.

The ruling party had earlier announced that it will not contest 13 seats where its coalition parties APRC, NRP, and PPP will put up candidates.
