Currently, His Excellency President Adama Barrow, Prsident of the Republic of the Gambia is in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia where he will, among other things, discuss with the relevant authorities about the upcoming summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation which is to be held here in the Gambia.
This is a very important occasion for the government and people of the Gambia. These countries – members of the OIC – have the resources needed to assist poor African countries to stand on their own feet by investing in the key areas of infrastructure: health, communication, education and the other key sectors. This will increase the pace of our development and improve the standard of living of our citizens.
It is therefore hoped that His Excellency, the President will endeavor to sell our National Development Plan 2018-2021 to as many of the Arab countries as are willing to be of assistance to a poor brother country.
The OIC has been a development partner to many African countries, and the Gambia is not an exception. The Gambia has always enjoyed a good diplomatic relationship with the Islamic countries belonging to the OIC. It is expected therefore that that relationship will bloom and bear fruit which will help raise us from our current low economic and financial level.
