The programme and events marking the first edition of the Senegambia Run for Integration conceived by George Gomez, a Gambian, to enhance tourism in the two countries and to contribute to efforts towards integration within the Senegambia region and Ecowas, formerly came to conclusion Friday.
At a ceremony at the Senegalo- Gambian Permanent Secretariat, organsers also formally launched the next event.
The ceremony took the form of a presentation of certificates, starting with the one of dedication to Macky Sall, President of the Republic of Senegal received on his behalf by the Senegalese Ambassador to the Gambia Professor Ndiouga Ndiaye. Certificates of appreciation were also presented to the President of the Ecowas Commission and to the Executive Secretary of the Senegambia Permanent Secretariat for their contribution to the success of the run. Others including media organizations were also recognized.
This was followed by speeches by Ambassador Fode Seck of the PSSG, Senegalese High Commissioner Professor Ndiaye and the Ecowas Banjul bureau chief Vabah Gayfloi.
The founder and initiator of the Run George Gomez formally announced the second edition of the event to take place from 17th to 19th January 2020 starting from Barra, Lower Niumi to Colobane in Dakar.
He further announced that registrations of teams are opened and forms are available at the Gambia Athletics Association, The Camp Africa offices at the Independence Stadium, the Permanent Secretariat of the Senegalo Gambian Secretariat at Cape Point or online at Senegambiarun.com.
The event is arranged in to categories, a team event which is a relay starting from Barra, on Friday 17th January with night stops in Kaolack, Mbour and ending in Dakar on Sunday 19th January and 20.
There is also a marathon, 42 kilometers from Kaolack to Fatick on Saturday 18th January which is opened for individual participation.
The final report of the Run is published and available on request on a contribution to support the organisation of the event.
