<![CDATA[The Village Girl Initiative (VGI), a non-profitable organization set up in the US by a survivor of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) with the aim of providing help to the rural villages and communities where it is widely practiced in the Gambia, has lined up 10 doctors and 20 pharmacists, nurses and lab technicians to offer free healthcare service to 500 people. The initiative targets people of Sanyang village and its surrounding areas. The official launching of the initiative and a free wellness clinic will take place on Saturday 18th March. The organization also aims at changing hearts by empowering women and girls with the resources through education, provision of free, quality and accessible healthcare services and community-base sensation programs and healing-based support programs for survivors. “We believe that having free, quality and accessible healthcare services available to rural and communities in the Gambia will enable the locals of these communities to get involve and participate in their health and well-being”. “The trickle effect of which will motivate the locals, empower them to take initiatives through health literacy programs, health preventative measure; infection prevention/control practices and more so encourage seeking healthcare services when needed without delay to prevent complications which are mostly preventable”. This is intended to have a direct effect in decreasing the rate/incidence of non –communicable and preventable diseases reduce cost as well as demand on major public health facilities and create a healthier community for all. “We also want to bring volunteers from around the world with diverse health care background –mainly doctors and nurses to provided free services to these rural villages and communities in the Gambia through VGI free wellness clinics and to also engage and build partnership with the organization and stakeholders and major donor /funding agencies with similar interest in attaining women's health, equality, empowerment and fight against gender base violence, to network with both national and international and gain access to grants to enable us accomplish our priorities”. “What we offer in the free wellness clinic in Sanyang village on Saturdays from 9:00 am -5:00 is free physical exam-basics wellness check-up, free HIV testing, free basic laboratory services-CBC&BMP ,free wound care services, free blood pressure checks and medication, free antibiotics ,free blood sugar checks, free pregnancy test, free blood glucose machine &strips, free health education /teaching ,free providers, free VGI apparels and many more.”]]>
