The Minister of Infrastructure, Dethié Fall, has announced that Ziguinchor Airport will reopen on 30th April, 2026. He said the on-going works are progressing according to cost, time, and quality requirements.
Speaking at the Blaise Diagne International Airport, the minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to accelerating the modernisation of the country’s airport infrastructure. Fall said he will make a site visit on 7th April together with the minister of air transport to assess the progress of the construction.
According to government sources, the official opening could be marked by the landing of a plane carrying high-ranking officials, underscoring the strategic importance of this infrastructure for the region.
According to Minister Fall, an inaugural commercial flight is scheduled for 1st May, 2026, with the aim of making the airport operational as quickly as possible. He indicated that this infrastructure will contribute to opening up the Casamance region and to local economic development.
The minister also mentioned the continued modernisation of the national airports network, including expansion projects at Saint-Louis Airport and the relaunch of the airport reconstruction works at Matam and Ourossogui.
