Fifteen heads of cattle worth around D300, 000 were reportedly killed by an unidentified person in Madina Giki, hours after their owner passed away.
“The incident happened on Thursday and we have reported the matter to the police in Bansang who came to the ranch,” said Mawdo Baldeh, son to the late Mayan Baldeh, the cattle owner.
“I have never seen something like this in my life,” he stressed adding that the entire family is devastated and in great anxiety about the mysterious incident.
He explained that the mass slaughter of his late father’s cattle was discovered by his younger brother.
“Everybody in the family including those who came to pay their respect to my late father was shocked,” he stated.
The president of the Gambia National Livestock Owners Association, Ebrima Jallow confirmed the mysterious incident.
“Immediately after receiving the news I personally went there to confirm and I think judging from what I saw, the person who killed the cattle must have used a very sharp object,” he said,
He said after a discussion with the family, they reported the matter to Bansang Police.
Jallow said members of the National Disaster Management in the region have also visited the family and the scene.
“We are appealing to the general public to help the police in their investigations to bring the culprit to book.
We are also appealing to the government to help us with security in the area so that the situation will be put under control,” he added.
