The deputy spokesperson of the Prisons Department has confirmed to The Standard that 17 prisoners at the Jeshwang escaped on January 1, between 6pm to 7pm.
Mr Luke Jatta also informed this medium that since then, the police department is contacted and has launched a manhunt to track the escapees.
Mile 2 escapees recaptured
Meanwhile, one Ebrima Kebbeh who escaped from Mile 2 two years ago where he was jailed for breaking into the presidential lounge at the Banjul International Airport, has been arrested by the Anti Crime Unit allegedly after another crime. Also, another prisoner Muhammed Hydara, who escaped from lawful custody on 7 November 2017 has been recaptured on 5 December 2020.
Hydara made a dramatic escape using a hacksaw he was hiding back in 2017.
