The magistrates’ court in Bundung yesterday sentenced a 19-year-old to a mandatory jail term of six months for stealing a laptop and a mobile phone from one Abass Demba, a student from the University of The Gambia.
The presiding magistrate Pa Modou Njie also ordered the convict, Sulayman Jallow to pay D2,000 to the complainant or serve another two months in prison.

Jallow’s sentencing followed his plea of guilt last Wednesday when he was arraigned on charges of house breaking and stealing.
He was accused of breaking into the house of Abass Demba and stole the said items valuing D27, 000. According to the police, this happened on August 25, 2021.
The prosecuting police officer was Corporal Manneh.
