The Gambia police have confirmed that two corpses have been recovered near Niumi island village of Jinack
In confirming the incident, police spokesman Supt Lamin Njie told The Standard last evening: “We can confirm to you that a boat left the Senegalese village of Jerro on the 22nd of May for fishing. It capsized on Friday [28th May] and the bodies of Baboucarr Dionne, 23 and Baboucarr Ndiaye, 42, were recovered in Jinack seaside. Three others who were in the boat were rescued in Senegal.”
He said the police have received a report that the two bodies recovered in The Gambia have relatives resident in Latrikunda, Serekunda.
According to local sources, all the bodies were in advanced state of decomposition.
The police personnel took the corpses to the Essau Health Centre before they were interred.
