Bodies of at least three teenage boys who drowned at sea on Sunday evening off Fajara beach were recovered yesterday morning.
The body of the fourth boy was unrecovered by the time we went to press. One is from Banjul while the three others are from Manjai Kunda.
Sources said a group of five boys went to swim in the Atlantic on Sunday and were caught in a strong current that swept them out to sea.
One of the boys however survived and raised the alarm about his lost friends.
The public relations officer of the Gambia Fire and Rescue Services (GFRS), which recovered one of the bodies around the Bakau coast, confirmed the incident.
He said after receiving the information on Sunday evening, GFRS embarked on a search-and-rescue/recovery mission, which led to the recovery of one of the boys, aged 14.
The bodies of two other boys were recovered by other volunteering rescue operations.
