After 4 years, Youssou set to perform in Gambia

After a four-year absence, mbalax superstar Youssou N’Dour and his Super Etoile Band are set to perform live in The Gambia this weekend.

The event presented by Absolute Entertainment, is slated for this Friday 12 and Saturday 13 January at Coco Ocean and Independence Stadium in Bakau respectively.
The undisputed king of mbalax will perform alongside The Gambia’s Bai Babu, Barhama, Jali Madi, Nobles, Jizzle and Alieu Badara of Humanity Stars.

The Gambia grande bal came after the mbalax sensation returned fresh from conquering Bercy, France, where he hosted his annual music fest.

“Everything is set and in place. We are excited and ready to host Youssou N’Dour in The Gambia. Technicians and TFM crew are already in town, band members are expected tonight [Thursday] at the Banjul International Airport and Youssou is expected to arrive tomorrow [Friday] afternoon insh’Allah,” said Haddy Faye, founder and CEO of Absolute Glamour and Entertainment in an exclusive with The Standard newspaper yesterday.

The first event, she went on, will be a classic gala dinner on Friday at the luxurious Coco Ocean Hotel and Spa, while the next event will be a grande bal at the Independence Stadium in Bakau this Saturday.
With scores of albums as well as a bevy of collaborations with both international and local acts, Youssou N’Dour’s repertoire is one of the biggest in world music.
The event is said to be one of the most anticipated as tickets for the gala were reported sold out a week ago.
