The participants were drawn from the Ministries of Finance and Health, Social Security Housing and Finance Corporation, Gambia Transport Service Company, Gamtel/Gamcel, Gambia Ports Authority and GRTS. Public speaking skills and communication techniques were presented in order to impart staff members with effective communication both within their organisations and when dealing with the public.
Speaking at the closing event, Lamin Camara, the permanent secretary at the Ministry of Information and Communication Infrastructure emphasised the benefits associated with effective communication and harped on the challenges that miscommunication poses.
He said: “Communication is a must for success. Without effective communication, one’s message cannot only be misconstrued, but it can be negatively portrayed leading to miscommunication and misunderstanding. And we all know miscommunication is the root of many great conflicts. Any person communicating effectively should ensure that language, emotional, interpersonal, physical, cultural, and perception barriers are eliminated or minimised in order to breed cordial, harmonious interpersonal and better working relationships”.
