The high court complex at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court has issued a bench warrant for Nfassu Fatty and Karamo Fatty accused of stealing D20 million worth of fuel belonging to the Gambia National Petroleum Corporation.
Justice Bakri issued the warrant following the prosecutor’s request to have the men arrested to face trial.
“My Lord, the efforts to locate the accused persons by the police and prosecutors remain futile. We want the court to make an order for a bench warrant,” Saikou Lamin Jobarteh requested, urging the court to direct the order to the Inspector General of Police.
His request was granted and the case subsequently adjourned to February 16.
The duo are charged alongside one Essa Colley who was present in court. They are facing four counts of economic crime, stealing by person, and fraudulent accounting.
Prosecutors alleged that the trio conspired and falsified the GNPC’s receipt in favor of one Modou Njie and stole fuel worth D20 million. They are yet to react to the allegation.
