Curious crowd trooped to the Kanifing Cadi Court yesterday to hear a ruling on a scintillating divorce case that thrilled the nation over the past few weeks.
In its ruling the Cadi asked the woman seeking divorce to choose one from three available options.
They are for her to return to the marriage or pay all what the husband spent on the marriage or go to Mile 2 for nine months. According to the husband Sheikh Ceesay, he spent over D300, 000 on the marriage.
“I gave the mother D52, 600, bought a laptop for her for D50, 000, paid D13, 000 driving classes for her, D24, 900 tuition fees, D3000 to her father, D50, 000 wedding cost, and D15, 000 bride price,” he revealed.
The Kanifing Cadi Court has also ordered the girl to pay D10, 000 to the man as damages within 24 hours.
Speaking to The Standard shortly after the ruling, the visibly relieved husband said: “I thank God because this is another indication that Islam is a religion of truth. What we want women to understand is that marriage is designed to worship God and not to follow money.”
