CAN QUALIFIERS SHIFTED TO SEPTEMBER…Gambia to fill gap with friendly against CAR

Match Day-Two of the Africa Nations Cup qualifiers for 2019 has been shifted from March 2018 to September.
Accordingly, the Gambia versus Algeria match initially scheduled for March 23 will now be played in September. The shifting of the CAN date to September and October is not new as it was announced by Caf last November to allow Africa’s five World Cup finalists to play friendlies in March, a proposal put forward by NFF President, Amaju Pinnick.

In place of the date The Gambia has set up a friendly against the Central African Republic CAR on March 24.
Since the GFF failed to effectively communicate on the matter at the time, they were forced to issue a clarification yesterday stating that Gambia will play CAR in a friendly in place of the postponed CAN date, after fans who did not know about the CAN changes took to social media to say it is Gambia versus Algeria.
Meanwhile a proposed friendly against Gambia purportedly by Kenya on the same date, floated on social media last week, remains only a wish by Kenya.
