Sick in the smiling coast

I made a trip to a private clinic last week Saturday. I have made so many visits to the doctor that it is one of my most dreaded things to do. Luckily for me (touch wood), the trips have gotten fewer over the last two years.

Can Balla Gueye 2 find his mojo again?

Sunday's morale-crushing defeat in the hands of Eumeu Sene has left many wondering whether Balla Gueye II has enough left in his tank to cut it at his country's top flight wrestling. The defeat of the man with a swashbuckling persona almost a year ago by Bombardier was seen by his legion of fans as a blip; that he was unwell when he was beaten in his own game by the man from Mbour.

A New Kind of Hope: Epistle to Nigerians

My brothers and sisters of Nigeria, I am neither a Saint nor am I Paul but I too do have a zeal for writing epistles, and since we are in the Easter season, I do not think it is out of place to follow the footsteps of the patron Saint of epistle writers.

The Story of Modou’s Life

Once upon a time I sent the following story to my best frenemy, the Prince of Brikama; the one who claims that if the spirits of Santangba inspire him, he can write a thousand books with eyes wide shut. The story was for publication but no sooner had I sent it to him than a lot of noise started rising up about my person. It was a bunch of confused speculations so I decided to instruct my man to withhold the publication for obvious reasons because I did not want to feed the fuel of misunderstanding then.

Destination Gambia: Sand Sun and Sea; #Peace

It's a warm Thursday morning, Jai and the kids are out to work and school and here I sit lounging at my favourite morning spot, Caramel at the Village on Bertil Harding Highway; and the name of that highway itself speaks volumes about the subject of this essay.

Ask Dr Bilal

Q: Having been raised and brought up in a Christian family, and at the same time having extreme respect for Islam and its teachings, if I die without reverting to Islam, in spite of having the opportunity to do so, can I achieve salvation from an Islamic point of view?

Mbugul Bah

One of The Gambia's youngest architects

Nuff respect!

Recently I led the Blaque Magique team to an event we were invited to. The team of young poets and vocalists were excited as always to do the one thing they all shared in common; performance.

Africa and the outside World: the politics of survival and ascendancy

As the globe moved from one 'order' to the other, so has continental Africa moved together in a parade of uncertainty, giving the valour to the outside world for competition. Since the inception of the civilised society, the state system and the realist ideology taken a centre-stage in global political discourse, three world orders emerged at different epochs all giving descriptions of inter-state interactions on the global stage and more importantly the struggle for survival.
