Championship clubs battle for Saidy Janko signature

Bristol City have been credited with an interest in Gambian defender Saidy Janko who impressed during a loan spell at Barnsley last season.

Bristol aren’t the only Championship club in for him as Reading and Sheffield Wednesday – who both reached the play-offs this term – have also been linked with the versatile right back, according to HITC Sport.

The former Manchester United player spent last season on loan with Barnsley but has since returned to parent club Celtic.
The 21-year-old helped the Scottish domestic treble-winners reach the UEFA Champions League group stages this season before moving to Oakwell on deadline day last summer, where he made 14 appearances and scored one goal.

The right-back, who can also play right midfield, was hampered with various injuries this term, despite impressing Tykes boss Paul Heckingbottom and missed three months of action from January to March.

He does not appear to be in Brendan Rodgers’ plans for Celtic despite having two-years left on his contract, which could result in him looking for a return to the Championship, where he has a number of admirers.
