The Gambia national team of domestic players has finally found winning ways. They beat Guinea Bissau 1-0 in the return leg of a friendly tie that now puts them on a positive gear to launch a good start to the CHAN Nations Cup qualifiers, which begins for them in Banjul on Saturday July 15 against Mali.
The lone goal that told the story came from Yankuba Jarju just over half way in to the first half but t it was the performance that elevated the technical team .”The team showed class and renewed vigour compared to the first leg last week and we are hopeful that with this kind of confidence the boys can do something from the match that matters, the one against Mali on Saturday,”said one local technician who followed the match. Meanwhile reports have said the Malian team is expected here by Wednesday or latest Thursday. The domestic Lions are a reflection of the cream and crest of the Malian league with its big money and good prospects for international attention.”It would be test of egos. Mali and Gambia go a long way back with sporadic victories over each other,” said one observer.
