The draw for the Super Nawettan was made yesterday with Bakau and champions Gunjur were handed the honour to open the championship at the Independence Stadium Sunday. Meanwhile Pa Ousman Njie, General Manager, institutional banking and treasury at FiBank expressed delight at his bank’s association with the Super Nawettan. “FiBank has a social responsibility to find a way to give back to society the little we got from them,”he said, adding that the support to the Supper Newetaan is a way of saying big thank you to their customers and the society at large.
General Lang Tombong Tamba, Chairman of the Supper Newettan Committee, thanked the Fibank management and urged players and fans to exercise maximum discipline during the tournament.Saiku Sanyang, an official of the Foni zone one of the new comers, said Foni has been marginalized in football for long.“It was very funny we were not recognized when it comes to policies in football; yet we are often classified as part of Greater Banjul Area.
But when it comes to rural matters, they classified us as urban; then it becomes funny we were not belonging to any zone,”he said.Sheik Hatab Tamba, chairman of Kombo East, said his zone is very optimistic about their chances in the tourney where they are appearing for the first time.
