Escaped prisoner slammed with more charges

Police prosecutors have filed a fresh charge against a convicted prisoner who escaped from custody while serving a five-year jail term at the state central prison in Banjul.
Ebrima Suwareh appeared at the Brikama court before Magistrate Anna Mendy yesterday. According to police prosecutor Inspector Kemo Manneh, the prisoner escaped during a trip to Kafuta forest on 27th May. He was later arrested in Brikama Gidda.
Suwareh however denied the charge of escaping from lawful custody when he appeared in court yesterday. He was represented by lawyer B Secka.

Inspector Manneh applied for an adjournment to enable him secure the presence of the first prosecution witness. His application was granted by the court.
Magistrate Mendy ordered Suwareh to be remanded at Mile 2 Prison. He was convicted of assault causing grievous bodily harm.
