A former Gambian international goalkeeper Wandeh Njie has criticised Coach Tom Sainfiet decision to drop top striker Steve Trawally.
Writing on his Facebook, Njie said he thinks Steve isn’t selected for non-footballing reason. ‘This’s about the country. If we’re playing against one of the best teams in Africa, I think all our best players should be available. I don’t agree with the coach’s statement on Steve. I think he lacks respect for Steve and Chinese football. I’m 1000% sure that if he was offered a job to choose between Gambia and a Chinese club, he will never step his foot in The Gambia”, Njie said.
Mr Njie said the GFF executive should not tolerate this kind of statement from a coach who knows nothing about Gambian football, adding that this situation can create a big division among football fans.
Coach Tom Saintfiet had said there are many other players available in the strike force.
“Steve Trawally has played 5 games for the scorpions with zero goals so I have to drop him and use other players”, he had said.
