Modou Touray, a former PIU officer and a volunteer nurse at the Brikama Health Centre, has been found guilty of raping an 18-year-old at Brikama Gidda.
The accused is currently remanded at the State Central Prisons awaiting sentencing as his lawyer was absent in court.
The incident happened in July 2020 at Brikama Gidda, West Coast Region.
Magistrate Peter Che, while delivering judgment, said the prosecution in proving their case against the accused led evidence through five (5) witnesses and tendered a medical certificate showing bruises on the vagina, raptured hymen and vaginal discharge, among others.
He held that at the close of the prosecution’s case, the court ruled that the prosecution had established a prima facie against the accused person while the accused was called to open his defense. He testified and called another witness but did not tender any exhibit.
