People and business operators are being urged to be extra careful following the discovery of a fake bank note in Bakau.
A local shop operator by the beach side was duped into accepting a fake currency by one unknown customer recently.
The shopkeeper who asked for anonymity said the customer gave him a fake hundred dalasi note, but only realised it later that day.
He is now warning people and businesses to be extra careful.
“I don’t know who it was. It could have been anyone,” he told The Standard. He said he has so far not reported the matter to the police.
But the police PRO said that could be dangerous for the shopkeeper himself.
“The shopkeeper could land in trouble if he is found in possession of that note.
If this story is true, he should have reported the matter to the police because we need to know the source of that note.
How did it come into town? Who printed it?” PRO Lamin Njie asked.
