Film producers elect new executive

Film Producers’ Association of the Gambia, on Saturday 5th December 2020, elected its 3rd executive at the Gambia Tourism and Hospitality Institute in Kanifing.

The association, under the umbrella body of National Center for Arts and Culture, was incepted in 2014, after fulfilling the legislative requirements of the Copyrights Act 2004.

Its main objective is to promote quality and standardized audio-visual work while raising public awareness on the social, economic, and cultural significance of resourceful audio-visual production industry.

Essa Jallow, the new president of FPAG, enunciated his appreciation for being elected to lead the 3rd executive of FPAG, adding that he has been longing for an organization that is engaged in promoting the film industry in The Gambia, and being elected as the president will help him to advocate and contribute massively in the development of the film industry.

“The film industry has been evolving in a slow pace since inception and my task is to be able to elevate the industry from its current standard to a better one.”

Jallow revealed some of the plans he will be working on with his team. First on the agenda is having sessions with members of the organization and elucidating them on how they will put work in place. He furthered by saying they will be engaging in media discussions to address stakeholders on how they can support the organization.

“We will be working with our aligned associations to help push the creative arts industry but we cannot attain our objectives in the absence of documents so we will be guided by our constitution to know our mandate and that with support from Government through NCAC,” he ended.

Cherno Bubacarr Zindi Jallow, out-going president FPAG, congratulated the newly elected executive and also advised them as he believes the task requires a lot of commitment and sacrifice.

“You should have the organization at heart as an executive, and also you should be able to accept criticism because people will always criticize,” he said.

Mariama Nyang, newly elected treasurer, expressed her appreciation for the general FPAG body for deciding on choosing them as their new executive, who will be serving the general FPAG association tirelessly to ensure their needs are satisfied.

The election was supervised by representatives from the IEC to ensure it’s a free and transparent one.
