A former Speaker of the National Assembly, Fatoumatta Jahumpa-Ceesay has been granted bail by the Kanifing Magistrates Court on Friday upon her plea of not guilty to a charge of interfering with a TRRC witness.
Her bail came after her lawyer, barrister Lamin S Camara presented facts in support of her request for bail before Magistrate PM Sarr who granted her bail without objection by the police prosecutors.
The trial Magistrate accordingly granted her bail in the sum of D1 million with two Gambian sureties and further ordered her to surrender all her travelling documents to the registrar of court before adjourning the case to 14 March for hearing.
FJC is the second high-profile former government official to be arrested and charged with criminal offence of interfering with a TRRC witness. Last week prosecutors also charged the former junta member and minister, Yankuba Touray with a similar offence.
